HOW TO DONATE A BOAT TO A MAINE NON PROFIT

If the thought of getting your current boat ready for sale and showing it to prospective buyers is just too much then why not donate your boat?

At Sailing Ships Maine your gently used boat will support our nationwide, non-profit youth education-at-sea programs. The process couldn’t be simpler. We take some basic information, walk you through the next steps and answer any questions you may have. To get started, just provide the quick info below, tell us a little bit about your boat, and we will tell you how your donation will help support our youth education programs! (And if you are looking to purchase a boat, feel free to use this form to tell us what you are looking to purchase - we have many great boats for sale.)

All donations are tax deductible. You can donate your boat to Sailing Ships Maine, a 501c3 in Maine. It doesn’t matter where you are located. Donating a boat to us ensures that the next generation of teenagers can learn how to share in the incredible experiences that you have had at sea. We take motorboats, sailboats, yachts, dories–you name it–even trailers and moorings.

Boat donations support scholarships for Sailing Ship Maine’s non profit mission: providing life-changing opportunities for teens of all abilities and income levels to discover the ocean environment and expand leadership skills while encouraging them to consider further maritime training!

We welcome donation of boats at any level, including those valued less than $5,000. Even during the pandemic, resale of donated boats has raised over $50,000 annually in scholarship funds. Other donated boats have been used to provide experiential education for teens.

We take care of the boat donation details immediately so you can move on with your life. If your boat is seaworthy and has not sold after 45 days on the market, it will begin to lose value and the deductible appraised value may be significantly higher than the current market value.
