About Casco Bay Community Rowing
Row Casco
(Casco Bay Community Rowing)
Please join us as we launch a fixed-seat team-rowing outdoor adventure program based on Casco Bay. We will begin rowing at East End Beach in Portland in April with high school students and adult members, and we will continue to build more 32 foot long rowing gigs with high school students and our partners at Bowdoinham Rowing. Join us as a rowing member and/or help us build more boats this spring. We row 32 foot long Whitby (Cornish) Pilot Gigs.
The Whitby gig requires 6 rowers, each with a single 12 foot long oar and an experienced coxswain (‘Cox’). There’s even room for two additional guests to ride along. Rowing is great exercise, a great way to meet people and an affordable way to explore Casco Bay. The boat is stable and has high topsides, making it safe and capable of rowing in the ocean and in varied sea states. It’s light and relatively fast. No prior rowing experience needed.
Annual Membership: $140.
