OCEAN PASSAGE SPONSORSHIPS

In partnership with the Ocean Cruising Club, we offer financial aid for young adults (18 to 25) to cross an ocean.

The intent is to support a young person to sail on an ocean passage in a boat of not more than 70 feet owned by an experienced Ocean Cruising Club or Cruising Club of America member and on a voyage of at least 1,000 nautical miles.

The sponsorship contributes toward the voyage costs in an effort to remove financial barriers for young people aspiring to become ocean sailors or interested in maritime or outdoor experiential education careers.

Applicants are not expected to have experience in long-distance sailing but they will be expected to have had practical experience as a crew member and to have had some basic training, experience or qualification.

We encourage OCC and CCA members to volunteer as Youth Sponsorship skippers. This should be both a rewarding experience and a helpful one. Applicants tend to be enthusiastic and helpful crew members.

We also invite OCC and CCA members to encourage enthusiastic young adults to apply and benefit from the wealth of experience that our skippers can provide.
